movement

movement has always been something that i have depended on to feel better. when i was going through cancer and could not move, i realized that i could practice yoga in my mind and was able to feel the benefits nonetheless. i never sought out to be a teacher of yoga, pilates, or gyrotonic®, but my experience of healing myself from cancer through yoga and movement led me to try and help others find their potential, healing and strength. it motivates me daily to teach others.

i offer a combination of yoga, pilates and breathwork in most of my classes. i work with people who like to be challenged and also with people who want to feel more relaxed, aware and at home in their bodies.

locations

i teach at bridge pilates, 53 hudson avenue, brooklyn, pilates on cortelyou, 1019A cortelyou road, brooklyn and at body evolutions, 266 east 10th street, new york

offerings

  • ashtanga is a very dynamic and athletic form of hatha yoga, made up of six series or levels, with a fixed order of postures. it is rooted in vinyasa, the flowing movements between postures, with a focus on energy and breath. while it is a very physical practice, it also promotes mental clarity and inner peace.

  • the gyrotonic® method is an original and unique movement method that addresses the entire person by opening energy pathways, stimulating the nervous system, increasing range of motion, and improving strength and movement efficiency. with gyrotonic® exercises, each movement flows into the next, allowing the joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression. these carefully crafted sequences create balance, efficiency, strength and flexibility.

  • pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the body with an emphasis on core strength. this helps to improve general fitness and overall well-being. similar to yoga, pilates concentrates on posture, balance and flexibility. the 6 principles of pilates are concentration, control, center, flow, precision and breathing. joseph pilates was the creator of pilates and the pilates reformer.

  • mindfulness is a type of meditation in which you focus on being intensely aware of what you're sensing and feeling in the moment, without interpretation or judgment. practicing mindfulness involves breathing methods, guided imagery, and other practices to relax the body and mind and help reduce stress.

  • pranayama is a practice that involves the management or control of the breath. pranayama practice is a powerful tool for healing and for enhancing general vitality and may promote relaxation.

  • fleming elastxx® is an original dance training system and self-sustaining tool for self-directed physical change. based on an understanding of the body’s ability to regenerate the mind, this powerful training method uses the power of breath to safely develop flexibility while strengthening the innermost layer of muscles in the body.
